Sea Holly is delighted to be working with Caroline and Robin Mullan of Mullan Gallery to bring you what promises to be a very special exhibition by Martin Gale, RHA.
“Gale is a faithful reporter of the Irish landscape” – Aidan Dunne
The exhibition opens on February 5th and will run until February 19th 2020.
Opening hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 11.30am – 7pm
Thursday: 11.30pm – 9pm
Saturday: 11.30pm – 6pm
Sunday: 1.30pm – 4pm
This will be quite simply an exquisite exhibition. Martin Gale, RHA, needs no introduction so I won’t attempt it. I am no art critic, and would be foolish to pen something when you consider that Seamus Heaney, Peter Fallon and Aidan Dunne are among those who have written about Gale. What I will say is if you haven’t seen any one Gale’s work before do not miss this chance to visit while it is here in the very heart of Belfast.
There is something about Gale’s paintings that I can’t put into words. It’s transcendent, sometimes mysterious, crystal clear in the detail. It’s absorbing and you can’t help but be drawn in. There’s something quintessential about how he captures the character of the Irish countryside and the people in it, and yet at the same time it is so very different. This is just my take. You might feel something very different and that’s what’s so great about art.
Another fantastic element of this exhibition is having had the opportunity to work with Caroline Mullan of Mullan Gallery. There is lots more information on Gale and other contemporary Irish artists on their website www.mullangallery.com.
Sea Holly is about bringing the very best of Irish art to Belfast, and to make it as accessible as possible.
